Don’t get jealous, other states. Due to Democratic victories in 2006 and 2008, Ohio has the best voting laws in the country. You can literally walk into your County Board of Elections, REGISTER AND VOTE, in one stop, FOR A WHOLE WEEK, starting THIS TUESDAY (September 28 – October 4).
In 2008, some friends and I created a group called Vote Today Ohio to raise awareness about this “Golden Week” opportunity. We rented vans, organized hundreds of volunteers (in nine Ohio counties and from out of state) and literally drove and dragged more than 5,000 people to the polls to register and/or vote.
In 2010, we’re bringing back Vote Today Ohio.
We are partnering with www.ProgressOhio.org to organize local voter guides and early vote rallies all across the state. Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, and Athens are already organizing. Cincinnati is close. We are still looking for organizers in: Dayton, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Bowling Green, Xenia, Lorain, and on college campuses across the state.
We’re officially announcing this (non-partisan) effort on Friday, so please contact me ASAP if you’re interested in getting involved. The goal is to have Early Vote rallies in as many counties as possible and get press coverage (especially TV and urban radio) to spread the word.
Interested? Please contact me ASAP!
